This ancient woodland is spectacular at any time of the year.

This walk (from Camping in the Forest) follows part of Savernake Forest’s Grand Avenue, planned by Capability Brown who was also responsible for the forest you see today, a vast wooded area comprising broad-leaved trees, tall pines, pollarded oaks and glorious beeches. Jane Seymour was introduced to Henry VIII while he was out hunting deer in the forest with her father back in 1535.  The site of Wolf Hall is not far from here.  The Seymour family tomb is located at St Mary’s Church in Great Bedwyn.

Distance: 5.5 miles Time: 2hr30 Grade: Easy
