I can see you have a lot of walking routes on your website – is it possible to get them in leaflet form?
Yes, we can supply most of the walking routes in leaflet form. We don’t charge for them, but would ask that you make a donation to the Pewsey Vale Tourism Partnership to cover the cost of postage, as it is quite expensive nowadays. We are a voluntary, not- for-profit organisation, so every penny counts!
Is the Vale of Pewsey dog friendly?
Yes. Many of the places to stay are dog friendly – you can find out more here.
Many people like to bring their dogs as the walking is so good here. However, we would ask that you respect the countryside you may walk through and keep your dog(s) on leads and under control.
The Vale of Pewsey is a very rural area and rights of way go through farmland. You will not only see livestock on some farms, but many of the areas, particularly downland, will have ground-nesting birds between March and the end of July. Although your dog may not actually chase the birds, just the disturbance from a predator is enough for some birds such as skylarks and peewits to abandon their nests. Also, please pick up your dog’s poo and don’t leave the poo bag on a hedge or elsewhere and take it home with you!
There is lots of information on how to walk through fields with livestock and how to follow the Countryside Code – have a look here for information.
I am exploring my family tree and have relatives that once lived in one of the Pewsey Vale villages. Would you be able to help me to find out more information?
Yes – we are always happy to link you to the relevant church or community if we can. We would also advise that you contact the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre in Chippenham as they hold lots of local history archives.
