Mid-Wilts Way Walking Itinerary
We encourage you to occasionally stray away from the route (using public rights of way of course), either to visit interesting places or people or to have lunch or afternoon tea and so our suggested detours are included.
You can of course modify our suggestions, but be mindful of your own walking pace and when you have to meet your pick up at the end of the day.
The total walking distance is 50 miles – 36.8 miles of the Mid Wilts Way and 13.2 miles of detours and ramblings. We have split the Mid-Wilts Way route into four stages, with two days of suggested other activities both in the Vale of Pewsey and beyond.
You can of course take this route at your own pace and stay a bit longer, or pick out selected days if your stay is shorter.

Remember to follow the Countryside Code – find out more here.

Planning your route
The itinerary consists of four walking days and two exploring days for you to go off and do other activities. The pace that we have set enables you to take time to admire views, take photos, stop for snacks and all the other things that we like to do when we are out walking!
Click on each day's icon below to access the detailed itinerary for that day's stage, to download the stage's or detour's gpx file for use on your walking app, or to print out a map.
Public TransportYou can now use the Wiltshire Connect on-demand bus service to get around as you walk the Vale of Pewsey. This service can pick you up and drop you off at lots of points in many villages across the Vale of Pewsey and towards Marlborough, Hungerford and Devizes at a time that you would like – ideal for getting to and from your start and finish points!
The service is available via a phone call (01225 712900) or on the Wiltshire Connect App.
