Hidden Wiltshire discovers interesting history and stories of places and people across the county. This particular video and blog is about Alton Barnes and Alton Priors – two beautiful villages at the foot of the Pewsey Downs.

David Carson MBE, whose family has farmed here for generations, provides the detailed history of the area. It’s a really interesting video, with some amazing footage of the Wansdyke, Ridgeway and the Pewsey Downs. Glyn Coy, Paul Timlett and David Carson talk about the significance of things we see today – the Churches, trees and tracks – bringing the whole landscape to life.
Any of these walking and cycling routes take you to this beautiful part of the Vale of Pewsey. To visit the churches you may need to make a small diversion, but it is well worth the effort!
